Alesis IO Dock and IPad3

Hi Technical Alesis staff!
I just bought IPad 3 (New generation IPad / HD IPad / The New IPad, or whatever how people calls it - here is link: http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home... of product). And I want to buy your product: Alesis IO Dock (http://www.alesis.com/iodock) for my IPad 3, but I have several questions:
1) Does it (Alesis IO Dock) works well with IPad 3 well?
1a) If yes - if any problems work Alesis IO Dock with IPad3 (connection, charging baterry etc.)
1b) If no - I like a lot Alesis IO Dock, idea and design are the best for IPad, so is there any way to connect it? Or do you have similar products for IPad 3. Or are you going to develope new Alesis IO Dock for this IPad3 (if so then when I will have possibility to buy it)?
2) How I can buy it here in Ukraine? Do you have official Shops here or official Dealers / Distributors? What is easiest way to buy it here in Ukraine.
3) Also I'm going to travel soon in Germany (in Berlin) - where I can buy it in Germany (easiest way)?

Waiting for your answers! Thanks. Bohdan.

I have the new iPad (iPad 3) I wanted to let everyone know that I bought the Alesis I/O dock today 9/13/2012 and my I/O dock came the the large gray sleeve already inserted in the I/O dock to connect the iPad 3. I tested the I/O dock in the store and it works perfectly. Not sure why others are having problems.

The first io Dock that I purchased did not recognize my iPad 3rd gen at all. I exchanged it and the second one seemed to have the same issue. I pushed the iPad in almost as hard as I could after it was docked and waited a few seconds and bingo, it started charging and audio worked. I have both the black and grey adapter that I just purchased and both have the same issue. I now have to do this every time I dock it, but at least it works. This shouldn't be this difficult and in my case it clearly seems to be something physical with the 30 pin connector possibly not being long enough. I hope Alesis is looking in to these issues and will provide an acceptable solution that doesn't consist of another color piece of plastic that looks and acts the same as the other 2.

I finally received my iPad 3rd generation grey adapter and although it does let me record my electric guitar into Garageband, when I look for the Alesis IO Dock in Settings/Applications to verify the firmware version, it's not showing up? Any suggestions? I really want this to work for me but besides the missing application listing, the connection between the Alesis and the iPad 3 is VERY sketchy and not very secure. I really have to push it to barely make a connection. Please advise on the Alesis not showing up in applications listings for firmware checking. Also, does the Alesis IO dock offer any extra settings for my guitar when using Garageband, such as effects, EQ, etc? The documentation that came with it is VERY limited. Alesis needs to do a beter job for their customers. Thanks, Joe in NH

I'm curious whether or not there's a correlation between the case color of the iPad and whether it fits with the new adapter. I'm in a unique situation in that I have 16 iPads and 3 io docks (music class). All are ipad 3, but mine was purchased a few months before the others, and is white. The rest of the 15 are black.

I tried the white one in each of the three docks with each of the three new adapters, and it would only connect, inconsistently, with one particular combination of dock & adapter, not any other adapter or dock. The 15 black ones all work fine, with certain ones occasionally needing some coaxing.

This has been frustrating, but I wonder about those of us who haven't been able to get a connection...how many of the iPads were white? Maybe a slight difference in the molding for those?

I have a 64 GB white iPad 3 that I bought the week of the iPad 3 launch. My iPad works just fine in the I/O dock with the gray connection adapter. My I/O dock came with the adapter, I didn't have to order anything separately from Alesis. My advice to anyone buying an I/O is to physically try the I/O on your iPad BEFORE you buy it. I took my iPad 3 with me to Guitar Center on the day purchase. The sales rep was more than happy to let me try my iPad and test it in the I/O there in the store. Best wishes people !

Interesting comment about the white vs. black. Makes me wonder. So is anyone able to offer me any feedback on my issue. I have the iPad 3 (white) and use the gray adapter that I purchased and was shipped to me. It makes an inconsistent connection, shows as "charging', but I am having sporadic issues with not being able to monitor through headphones (MONITOR is on, etc.) and crashing once or twice. Also, why won't Alesis I/O show as being listed in my SETTINGS where all the other applications are listed? I would like to verify I have the latest firmware but I do not know how to do that without being able to see th I/O listed on the iPad! Any thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Jody in NH

I went to a local music store Yesterday (4Sound, Denmark) and had a look. They had two Alesis IO Docks, both with black adapters. They had no idea about the grey adapter, hadn't heard about it.

Shouldn't they request grey adapters to replace the black ones before selling, instead of leaving the trouble to the customers?

    sad I’m hopeful
I am curious what changed with iPad 2 vs iPad 3. My IO Dock worked okay with iPad 2, though didn't have a reliable connection just with the plastic insert, so I had to add some sheets of paper to get it to stay connected. Plus the Video Out simply cannot be turned on. And now I tried my new iPad 3 and there's no connection made at all.

So my question is, is there also a connector change in addition to a plastic tray insert for the iPad 3, and can you explain what has changed with the iPad 3 that makes it incompatible with my particular revision of the IO Dock? Is the connector issue related in any way to the video out not working, perhaps due this particular IO Dock being an early revision of the hardware?

And finally, what can I do to get this lovely piece of studio equipment to work?

FYI - I sent my iodock to Alesis(still under warranty) since it absolutely would not dock with my ipad3 - grey adapter, modified black adapter, notebook paper...didn't matter. The dock connector was sitting several mm to low.

After I finally got it back (same unit/serial number) - it works perfectly. So clearly, the manufacturing tolerances are not great.

For those of you with grey adapters that are still having problems, having it "repaired" may be your best option

Hi Everybody, I solved this problem today.

I work in a shop in Geneva switzerland (www.theworks.ch) and one of my customers just couldn't use his IODock with his iPad 3 because the connection between was impossible.
After a lot of different tries including with an other new io dock, I found the problem... and it's incredible.

On the adapter for the iPad 2&3, there is a plastic edge at the bottom, on the connector's side, wich is not visible without removing it.
I really don't know how the developers of this adapter could let this problem on the market but THIS EDGE DOESN'T LET THE I PAD CONNECT ITSELF TO THE DOCK.

So a small blow of file and tadaaaaam it's perfectly working.
Here's some photos of the adapter before and after :

If you have Garageband on your iPad, I suggest you to open it and do everything like if you would record something with the iPad's Microphone. You should have a screen like that : http://ipad.appstorm.net/wp-content/b...

Then connect it with the iodock and start the iodock with the back on/off button.
If the iPad is correctly connected, the screen should change after a few seconds to something like that : http://macprovid.vo.llnwd.net/o43/hub...
If it works, you can now use your iodock.
If it doesn't works (without adapter) I think your iodock should have a problem.

In fact, the only thing the adapter does is to heighten the iPad 2 & 3, thinner than the first one. If the adapter cause an issue, it can only be because of a piece of plastic somewhere wich doesn't let the connection be made.

Tell me again if you don't understand.

      Good luck

Just checked Thomann.de and they can't deliver for about a month. I hope this means Alesis have a new adapter ready with the next shipment. I really want to buy this io dock, but not before I can insert and remove my iPad 3 without any problems.

So far I haven't been able to get any successful connection with my iPad 3 and IODock, but the iPad 2 does connect fairly reliably with the black adapter and fully reliably with a few sheets of paper in there.

I'd like to order the grey adapter, but before I go to the effort I want to make sure it will actually work. And I do still have that issue where Video OUT can't be enabled.

I'm going to check out the Alesis dealers in Seattle, Washington where they hopefully have IODocks and adapters, bring my iPad and IODock in and mess around with them. Hopefully! I've got to make some phone calls from the dealer list and see what I can find!

    indifferent I’m confused and undecided
Okay, I've heard a lot of different responses and experiences, and I'd just like to know: should I get it? Is it worth it? Or will I end up on the phone way too much, get trouble for trying to return it if the sound problems are in fact as bad as some people say, and just generally waste my time?
