Propellerhead Reason Controller Map

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if its possible to get a Reason Controller Map for the Alesis Q49. Right now its a pain without it and i cant use any of the functions properly with out manual overriding which dampens my creativity. I wanna get in and make music and not tinkle.
I got the Q49 for the Transport Controls but right now they dont work and if i remote override them, they dont work properly. I press play and it plays. I take my finger off and it stops. Thats would be a nice function for the Forward/Back buttons and stop but not the Record and Play buttons.

So....umm...help? Please? O_o

    Hi, are you able to advise if this has been rectified yet, as I want to buy a QX49 today, but not if the transport buttons work as a press on and release off, as this seem mad. Also, is the issue with randon sustain rectified, as that thread has not been answered recently. cheers
    • Hi Richard,

      What are your experiences with using the QX49 in Reason so far? Do you have any tips or experience to share? I am also still strugling with using the QX49 as a control surface within Ableton. I read somewhere in the Ableton lessons about the Axiom Pro that you have to switch between midi channel 1 and 16 for controlling session and arrangement view and devices respectively. I guess this would also be valid for the QX49. Do you have experience with this? Or anyone? Thank you already very much for advice...

    Hi there,

    Actually, it's a real nightmare regarding QX49 used with Reason, Transport button are not working, and the pad play C2 note or C2 key in same time, so it's impossible to assisgn it somewhere. And when we assign the pad button, it lets the key C2 "Blank", or on silent. If you can do something (after 3 month...) like a preset, a map for Reason, (and Fruity loops as well) it will be great...

    Thanks for your understanding and your help.

    Hey Tom, This should help you. If your controller is set as Reason Control Surface in the preferences you can set this up.

    QX49 Sending or you can auto learn in Reason:
    Start = CC 115
    Stop = CC 114
    Record = CC 116
    Fast-forward = CC 117
    Rewind = CC 118

    1. Open Reason with the QX49 connected and go to the preferences window.
    2. Go to the 'Advanced MIDI' tab.
    3. Ensure the QX49 is selected as the Remote Control input and exit preferences.
    4. To assign, right-click (control-click on Mac) on the stop button in the transport bar and select 'Edit Remote Override Mapping...' to bring up the MIDI Remote window. Alternatively select 'Edit MIDI Remote Mapping' from the Options menu, so that green arrows appear by all of the assignable controls, and click on the stop button.
    5. The MIDI Remote window will appear - ensure the 'Learn From Control Surface Input' box is checked.
    6. Press the stop button on the QX49 (make sure that one of the Reason instrument templates is selected first) - the 'MIDI received' bar should flash and the correct assignment should be seen in the parameter boxes in the MIDI Remote window.
    7. Click 'OK' to close the window and then repeat the assignment process for play, record, forward and rewind.
    8. Once complete make sure you turn 'Edit MIDI Remote Mapping' off in the options menu but that 'Enable MIDI Remote Mapping' remains checked.

    Also you will be able to change the message that is sent by your pads as well with the setting on the QX itself.

    Hi Sandeen,

    Thanks for your help, I forgot to say that I have Reason 4.0, yeah don't have enough for upgrading, but just enough for buying a new keyboard.
    The thing is, even the button, "stop" or "play" from the Keyboard QX49 are not recognized, after installing, unstalling, or by making your solution thousand of times, and trust me I want that this stuff work well, so I red carrefully your stuff.
    So to make it clear :
    - Keyboard detected everywhere and nicely set in Reason.
    - PADs are mixing with Key C2, C2#, etc...
    - Button "Play", "Stop", not detected.

    And the CC 115, and Stuff I don't know what is it, still noob with midi keyboard, even if I red your booklet, I don't understand the purpose of, I don't know what setting it's made for, there is no explanation in it or on your website.
    I would like to set up correctly my Alesis product for Reason, but I don't know how which midi,or channel, or zone, sending stuff match with reason midi, more like for synchronizing. And for me I need to understand why and the purpose of each thing.
    I know that you're busy so if have a good link which it could explain me all settings of midi keyboard AND the PURPOSE of this option, it will be cool just for my info.

    Thanks you so much.
