Sample Pad Error "Invalid Format"
Hi! I got a problem with loading in samples to the Alesis SamplePad. I got the samples in .wav, in 44.1k or 48k (tried both), fat23, the right naming of files and everything else according to the instructions. I still get an error saying "Invalid format". Im loading them in from a mac. Can you please help me?

Again, as mentioned earlier, everything complies with these specifications. My SD card is formatted to FAT32, all the .wav files are named according to the format as specified, all files are located in the root/main directory of the card, all files are .wav, mono, 16Bit, 44.1kHz, I have only got 20 odd files on the sd card, the maximum file size i've tried to load is 90kB. and i still get the "invalid format" error message. So the question above relates to; when the only file i got the sample pad to play was one not exported from pro tools, could it have something to do with the extended information in the file header of a broadcast format wave file? If so, what can you do about it? A bwf has the extension .wav and only differs from a "normal" wav in the extra chunks in the header, and should therefore not require any special treatment or player... The device should simply disregard these extra chunks.

Grab audacity and recreate the .wav file. You shouldn't heave issues with that.

This has been asked and answered before but I'm getting Invalid File Format with .wav files on my SamplePad. I've used Audacity to convert the files and checked everything several times. I've formatted the cards as FAT32 on both a mac and pc. I finally was successful in converting a few .wav files late last night but I need more for a musical this week.
Is there a restriction maybe on the type of file to use as the original? Success seemed to come from .wav originals that were 11hz. Can I convert .mp3 or other .wav files?

I just hear a little click instead of the sample. I have tried all the different acceptable formats. My card is FAT32. Has anyone found a solution???

Try another converting program. If you were using audacity before, try this one: http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/products/...
"switch" should work for Mac users (free). -

Hi, I have one question can i load a wav file which last over 30 seconds ?
How long each sample can last ?-
It varies depending on what you have assigned to each location
(examples) total sample memory: 14MB
--3.1 MB on each of the 4 pads at once with the INT 001 CLAP assigned to the Kick location.
--3.2 MB on two of the 4 pads at once with the INT 001 CLAP assigned to the other 3 locations.
--2.0 MB on each of the 5 locations at once.
--8 MB on one pad with the INT 001 CLAP assigned to the other 4 locations. -

I have the same problem. All the wav files I have tried to load meet the given requirements, but nothing is heard when I play the pads. Sometimes just a click instead of the sound. The wav-files load poroperly and show up in the display, but nothing is heard when playing the pads. I am very irritated and disappointed, and Alesis gives no support whatsoever. I have e-mailed them for a month and no one responds to help me, just some automated e-mails which are completely useless.

Hi guys,
I suspect the problem relates to extra metadata in the header of the broadcast wave format (.bwf). Files conforming to the Broadcast Wave specification have names ending with the extension .wav, and one would be forgiven for thinking a device which is supposed to play back wav-files would simply disregard the extra chunks of metadata-information and play back the sound-information. Especially since the standard has been around since 1997, and many of the most common DAWs (including pro tools, which i use myself) outputs a .wav with the extra metadata as default. So disappointingly, the remedy seems to be to erase the extra information, or in the rep's words: convert a wav to a wav. To reiterate: It is possible that your .wav-files contain information that the SamplePad doesn't know how to handle, and you need to convert them in a program like Audacity to loose the extra chunks. From a wav to a wav. Which seems silly. Which is why I didn't try it myself for days. Which left me frustrated. Which in turn led me to try all sorts. Which in the end worked. :)
Hope this helps.-
Yeah your on to it roligeroald, Audacity will give you a stripped down .Wav. Most issues come from more sophisticated DAWs. Thanks for the input.

Thanks so much, roligeroald, for solving this critical problem, which should have been no problem at all!

Alesis team....really now.
I need to use differend files on my sample pad NOW.
None of the above methods worked & i keep hearing complains in both blogs & youtube that really upset me.
Wasting my valuable time in trying to fix it by myself was not included on the manual, not to mention the money wasted.
How about an answer or a Recall?- view 5 more comments

Yes, the Alesis video is very nice and pedagogic. But the fact remains: it says "make sure you use 16 bit, mono wav files up to 48 kHz", and "you can use ANY audio editing program to create these files," "but if you want to use a free one, you can download Audacity".
It says "any audio editing program", but this isn ́t true, since wav files with the correct specs created in Steinberg Wavelab will not work in the SamplePad. I would assume that Wavelab is a much more common choice among home studio musicians than Audacity is. So it would be a great asset if this was clearly mentioned by Alesis, that NOT ANY audio editing program will be able to create the required wav files. -

I hear you Mikael. I will do my best to clear up all confusion.

Is anyone still having issues? If so let me know if you're using Mac or Windows and what you have tried previously. Mac's can make invisible duplicate files with similar names when tranfering, this could give you issues as well. Let me know, we'll get to the bottom of it.

Cheers roligeroald!
Roland, let me know if you have trouble after the steps above. If needed you can post a file for me to check out. -

Great!! Roligeroald thanks a lot, I made some tests and it works :)
Finally, it seems that we'll get to use this sample pad in the end!!
Thanks again for sharing! Much appreciated! -
