  • and it looks like Alesis STILL won't admit it.
Oh well at least the answer is on here for those who want to save a bunch of money buying hi hats or controllers

  • I just don't think anyone at alesis believes its legit, or worse doesn't want to. I mean it would be pretty embarrassing for a company to overlook such a thing. And to make an admission of such a glaring oversight might lend credence to my theory that no one really knows what is going on because they didn't actually design the hardware.

And what's even more puzzling was the brushing off of this revelation because we were apparently all somehow improperly setting our hi hats up by using a felt washer that they themselves (alesis) used in the very video they made to show you how to set up your hi hat.

Which by the way after removing that felt washer I discovered I was triggering the bow on my hi hat by just using the pedal. No setting adjustments would correct it. Oddly enough I put that washer back in and that anomaly disappears.....

I would like them to acknowledge it and give credit to those initial guys who pointed everyone in the right direction. But it would also acknowledge that the customers are really the true "alesis R&D" department.

I don't even think the people who birthed the idea give a crap about the credit. I think what annoys them is the fact that this is HUGE news and its being squandered to save face. Its game changing and they want to brush it off. It makes no sense to me. You would think that a solution this simple would be welcome news. But maybe that's part of the problem.

How many modules, cymbals and other bits do you think they threw at this problem and gave away thinking it was going to fix the issue?

I mean If I was the guy authorizing to give away a $1000 module because I overlooked the length of a $1 spring assembly? If the initial screw up didn't cost you your job that certainly might.

My guess? They will increase the length of the spring. And it will be done quietly with no addressing of it publically.

  • What with this and the video I watched yesterday I now have a totally different kit. It's 60% louder and the hi hat works. It's what I thought I was buying out of the box.

The fact is that this kit now delivers albeit with an adjustment to the Spring and settings. It IS the worldbeater I was hoping it would be. (This is the praise thread!)

It is sad that unlike car manufacturers who recall mass faulty items Alesis prefer to continue to point the finger at the felt pad which should be removed according to Bill and left in position according to Dan's video and both of which made no difference to me until I put a spacer on top of the Spring AT NO COST. Just maybe Alesis have been spending loads on researching this problem since this thread started and are nearly at software upgrade V1.4 with the hi hat. I think maybe they want the credit for fixing the problem.

I DONT CARE, after 3 months of waiting for a replacement kit, playing with a terrible hi hat and generally just putting up with what I thought was a dud, my kit now works thanks to the suggestions on the other thread and I now have a FANTASTIC KIT and it's mostly down to help from fellow forum members and YouTube videos.

Credit where it's due..... Alesis did put this together for us but they would have got SO much more respect from me if they had just said 'thanks for helping guys we'll look into that'

I'm now writing to the FANTASTIC shop where I bought my kit and thanking them for replacing my ENTIRE KIT in an attempt to fix this problem. If only I knew then what I know now............

  • I'm right there with you man. For the first time in 3 weeks I'm playing rather than tweaking. Ok I'm still tweaking things but its because I now know what to do, lol. I'm not just twisting knobs and praying for good results.
